An insulated garage door is a door lined to keep heat out in summer and in during winter. There are two ways to get one. Buy a whole new insulated garage door and have it fitted, or insulate the door already on your house with a KoolDoor kit. What makes a garage door “insulated”
A standard garage door is a single skin of thin steel. Nothing sits behind it, so the metal heats up in the sun and dumps that heat straight into the room. An insulated door adds a layer that slows the heat down.
A factory-insulated door builds that layer in at the plant, usually foam sandwiched between two steel skins. A retrofitted door gets the same job done from the inside, with rigid panels fitted to the door you already own. Both end up as an insulated garage door. The difference is the price and the mess to get there.

Will it fit your door?
It fits most standard doors. The door type decides which product you need.
A sectional door (the kind that folds up in panels as it opens) is the easy win. KoolDoor panels press straight into each section. A solid tilt door works the same way.
A curtain-style insulated roller door is different. It rolls up into a drum, so rigid panels cannot sit on the moving slats. There the better fix is usually a seal kit around the frame, blocking the gaps where heat and draughts sneak in.

Insulated roller doors
Roller doors are the question we get asked most, so here is the straight answer. A curtain-style roller door is a sheet of linked steel slats that coils into a drum above the opening. Because the whole curtain has to bend and roll, you cannot fix rigid panels to it without jamming the door.
Buying a new factory-insulated roller door is one option, but it is the expensive one, and it still leaves the gaps around the frame open. The cheaper and often better fix is to seal the edges. Brush seals down the sides close the gaps where heat, draughts, dust and pests get in, which is where most of the comfort is lost on a roller door anyway.
If you have a sectional or tilt door, the panels are the answer. If you have a curtain roller door, seals usually are. Tell us which you have and we will steer you to the right product instead of selling you the wrong one.

Is it worth the extra money for an insulated garage door?

How much cooler will my garage get?

Does a retrofit kit look as good as a factory door?
Inside the garage, the panels sit flush in the door sections with a clean white face, so it looks finished rather than bare. From the street nothing changes, since the panels go on the inside. You keep your door’s existing look and add the performance.
